Absence of milk inspite of normal & healthy udder & calf is healthy
Causes
No definite cause
failure of milk formation
hereditary predisposition where it of no udder affection congenital
aplasia of the mammary gland mainly occur in goat
failure of milk letdown
nervous inhibition as in case of
a. cystic ovary ( nymphomania & anestrum )
b. mare in it's 1st parturition
pain inhibition due to biting of teat by foal or calf due to erupted teeth
lack of stimulation of the teat due to no suckling of neonate
diseased dam e.g. septic metritis
trauma or injury in the udder
udder inflammation ( mastitis ) which mainly acute
Sign of agalactia
case history no milk letdown after parturition
size of udder small with adduction of hind limb
foal & calf are suckling for long time with
a. no ↑in abdomen size
b. no swallowing
c. no milk marks at mouth
d. active calf depressed weak dehydrated
Treatment
ttt of specific cause
ttt of mastitis
ttt of trauma & injury
hereditary & aplasia scared animal from breeding
